BattleTabs v2 — How to Play

Welcome to BattleTabs — the multiplayer battle game you play in your browser new tabs. Here is a quick tutorial to get you started.


Start a New Battle

Click on the “New Battle” button to start a battle.

Select a Play Style

Select a Play Style

Pick a play style. Intense matches are played in real-time, while casual matches have long turn time and can last a few days.

Select a Fleet

Select a Fleet

Once we have found an opponent for you, you can then select a fleet to use for the battle! Unlock more fleets as you win more battles.

Position Ships

Position Ships

Once you have selected a fleet, you can position your ships by dragging to move or clicking to rotate them. When you are ready, click on “I’m Ready” and the battle will start!

The Boards

The Boards

Your board is the one on the top left corner, and your opponent’s board is the one on the lower right corner. The first player to sink all of the other player’s units wins the battle.

When it is your turn, click on a tile to launch a normal attack.

Special Attacks and Abilities

Hover over an icon to see its detail card

Each ship and monster has special attacks or abilities that can help you with the battle. Hover your mouse cursor over the icons below your avatar, or the ships on your board, to learn more about each ship’s ability.

Once an ability is selected, you can target where to use it on opponent’s board. Not all abilities require aiming, some will be used right away when you click on the ability icon.

List of Ships and Abilities

Art Name Ability
Sailboat Attacks in a 1x3 pattern
Raft Attacks in a 2x2 pattern
Longboat Combo. You can keep attacking if you hit an enemy unit until one enemy unit is destroyed.
Coracle Can only attack in revealed tiles. Destroys ships in one hit.
Whale Attacks reveal adjacent tiles
Longsub Sonar. If you miss, a number shows the distance to the closest enemy unit(s). Is revealed to the other player when the ability is used
Minisub Sonar. If you miss, a number shows the distance to the closest enemy unit(s)
Killer Squid Can only attack in revealed tiles. Attacks also reveal adjacent tiles
Sea Turtle Successful attacks reveal adjacent tiles
Kayak Attacks in a 1x2 pattern
Sea Monster Attacks ANY 3 tiles at random (any tiles, including those already hit/rocks)
Octopus Attacks 2 UNKNOWN tiles at random with sonar
Catamaran Attacks in a 7x1 line.
